“At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to a life of freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new…India discovers herself again.”

Jawaharlal Nehru
(on Indian Independence Day, 1947)

India fought and won its freedom from the British rule on the eve of 15th August, 1947. Since then, the tricolour is hoisted all across the country on the 15th of August. This is our 61st year of independence from foreign rule.

Agriya Infoway celebrated Independence Day in advance on 12th August 2008, by conducting a special quiz program for Agriyans. The quiz program was arranged by the HR team. A large number of Agriyans came forward to take part in the quiz, so they formed two groups; group A & Group B comprising 6 and 7 teams respectively.

Each team had three members nominated from different teams of Agriya. Teams were allowed to choose their topic of interest from general topics such as Politics, IT, Current affairs, Cinema, Sports, History.

Rules and regulations of the quiz as stated by the organizer: The quiz consists of three rounds; questions will be fired on the topics chosen by the team. Each question carries 10 marks and the passed question carries 5 marks. Two teams selected from Group A and Group B in league rounds, will meet in final round.

Group A was called initially. After explaining the rules and regulations, the quiz started and went on with fun filled easy questions under cinema, politics and sports. Most of the teams selected cinema as their topic. After the tough competition, two teams (Flash and BDE) were selected for final round.

Then group B took the quiz and went through the same procedure. Another two teams (Programmer and BDE) got selected for final round.

The final round started with four teams that had qualified the league rounds. The final round went well with a lot of questions from various topics. After a tough competition, the Flash team which belonged to group A finally won.

At the end of celebration, gifts were given by the honorable managing director of Agriya to all the participants and the winners received special prizes. This initiative taken by the Admin is truly appreciated by the staff.

In our own fun filled way, we celebrated the 61st anniversary of India’s independence, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Here are some photo’s from the event (don’t judge the quality, it was taken on one of those rubbish Apple iPhone things).

OK, the owners of Agriya must be crazy. Or insane. Or it could be mid-summer madness. Maybe something in the water?

It must be something, because when the order came down to me to cut the cost of Rayzz and Kootali, I had to pick up the phone and get verbal confirmation that they hadn’t lost their mind. Even when they confirmed it, I still didn’t believe it.

Anyways, their madnesss must be your gain, because the order that came to me was:

Peter, cut the price of Rayzz and Kootali to $249.99

You what? See what I mean? That’s why I had to find out if they were being serious or if it was all some big joke.

Well, I can tell you that it’s not. But there were some conditions attached to these orders.

Peter, this sale must end 31st August. No if’s, no but’s, and no exceptions

So what else could I do? The prices have been revised to these rediculously low prices, but only for a short period of time.
