Google Voice: a new way to imply your voice!
Did you think that Google was already everywhere? You were wrong! After Google map, Google search and a lot of others web services, Google succeeds today in opening Google Voice, a new service to phones. In fact, Google voice already existed with the purchase of GrandCentral in 2007. Its goal was “one phone number for all your phones, for life”. However, it apparently didn’t really work.But now Google bought one million numbers and seems to be ready to launch this new project. All the official sites of Google announce this service and propose some invitation to be the first to have a number. But be careful, this service is reserved for American people and has to be tested by a closed user group.
However, phoning by internet, what’s new? We can already use MSN or Skype for free. With Google Voice, users can unify all your routing home, office and other numbers and call abroad for amazingly cheap price (but local call has always the same price since you always use a phone network). However, thanks to a technological performance, Google succeeded in converting voicemail into text mail which can be read or heard later, whichever is useful to find information. They can transfer their call on one of the telephones. The more awaited feature however, is free SMS.
To summarize, Google Voice doesn’t propose a very new novelty but its advantage is to gather together all these features in one free service.
Between Facebook and its members, who to protect?
Facebook, the most successful social network today, allows its adherents to create very different groups. However Facebook has to protect its system and that’s why some rules have to be respected.It seems to be evident that a group like “Rogue Facebook Apps Early Warning Group” appears as a dangerous threat, even more when one knows that they spread unsafe information. Ahsan’s inaugural day
On the 13th of June, Agriya was formally changed to Ahsan Technologies. While we’ll update you in another blog post on what this means for Agriya and Agriya’s products and services, this post is to tell you all about the inauguration function.
It was a fantastically hot day as the mercury pushed 40 degrees; the setting was the grounds of a large villa by the sea (the Bay of Bengal to be precise) and in attendence was Ahsan’s 170 strong workforce.
The theme for the day had been unanimously decided to be “Hawaiian”. The designers helped out by creating the wonderful poster board that dominated the proceedings along with the graphics for the famous Hawaii surf boards that adorned the sides of the stage. The ladies helped out by bringing flowers and garlands to hang around everyones necks and in the hair. Ahsan even provided everyone with straw hats to give an authentic feel to the setting.
With tropical weather, palm trees, people dressed in colourful ‘hawaii’ clothes and silky white beaches and waves crashing nearby, anybody would feel like in they were in Hawaii.
The beautiful MC started off our proceedings, where dozens of employees showed that they are not just awesome programmers…there’s a whole load of untapped talent beneath the surface of Ahsan. Kollywood (that’s the local film industry) and Bollywood have surely missed out on some of these guys. From singing to dancing, employees amazed us all with their hidden abilities.
You would probably have a hard time finding the gourmet lunch, that was served up, in Hawaii, but that didn’t stop the staff feasting on the delightful dishes that were available – Not a bean was left over by the end!
After lunch the staff got to prove their effectiveness in working as a team – a trait that is essential to the IT field. I’m happy to report that the writer of this blog entry was on the winning team for all of the team building competitions! A reflection of my team leadership abilities? I prefer not to say
As night fell and the stars came out, everyone swapped the casual Hawaii costumes for formal wear. The ladies in their elegant Indian sarees, and the guys looking sharp in shirts and ties. This part of the day was all about celebrating Ahsan and the staff that make the company what it is today.
Staff won awards for a whole range of categories, everything from Best Team Leader to Work / Life Balance Award. There were also speeches from several high profile guests including a prominent legal advocates in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The night was rounded off in the same manner in which the day had begun, and more importantly, it was the most anticipated part of the whole day: the final results of the Ahsan general elections. We had seen all kinds of activity in the run up to the elections, canvasing by potential candidates, ‘favours’ being handed out, alliances being made and a whole lot more.
The most important result of the night came in the end. Who would hold the crown for Mr and Ms Ahsan 2009? People were on tenterhooks as everything built up to the final announcement.
It was a apparently a tightly run race, but in the end Mr. Varun (our ever charming BDE) and Ms. Shankari (our enigmatic programmer) came out tops.
