  1. 8 Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire

    Los Angeles, 22/2/09: breaking news! “Slumdog Millionaire” took the best motion picture academy award and seven other Oscars. The seats at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California, the United States, were filled up this morning to see the grand finale.

    AR-Rahman Slumdog Millionaire has been nominated in 10 categories at the Oscars, namely: Best Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Film Editing, Original Score, Two Original Songs, Direction and Motion Picture.

    Out of 10 nominations, it has got 8.

    Best original song: The Indian music maestro, Rahman and Gulzar who picked up the Oscar for best original song ‘Jai ho…’

    Best original score: AR. Rahman for “Slumdog”. He became the fourth Indian to get an Oscar by winning the award for best original score. He dedicated Oscars to his “loving” mother Kareema Begum, who was seated among the audience at the Kodak Theater.

    Sound mixing: Ian Tapp, Resul Pookutty and Richard Pryke got an Oscar award for the sound mixing.

    Motion picture: Producer Christian Colson won the award. “It has been collaboration between hundreds of people. All of us are here to share this moment. This was an extraordinary journey,” says the Slumdog… team.

    Best direction: Danny Boyle who won the best director award.

    Best Film Editing: Chris Dickens for Slumdog Millionaire.

    Best Cinematography: Anthony Dod Mantle.

    Best adapted Screenplay: Simon Beaufoy won the “Best Adapted Screenplay” award for “Slumdog Millionaire”. He gave the credit for this award to Vikas Swarup, whose novel quiz show motivated the movie “Slumdog Millionaire”.

    A.R. Rahman is the first Indian to bag two Oscar awards in single go.
