Agriya’s Crowdfunding Website Aims For The Stars
Several months ago we announced the launch of our new crowdfunding website called FundProjectsWith.me which enabled anyone to open a web development project and seek funding from the crowd to turn it in to a reality. Since it launched we have been busy adding new projects which you might be interested in – everything from an Etsy clone to a Bitly clone.
We are also pleased to see that some members have started adding their own projects and are looking to people like you to help fund their ideas. Don’t forget, if you come on board and fund a project, you get a stake in it and can profit from it yourself!
There are now over 40 projects listed on the website which you can get involved with. All kinds of websites are available to be developed – although we think some people are being a little optermistic with their requirement for a complete Yahoo clone! So far the most popular project seems to be for the Yelp clone.
With the increased amount of interest in the website we’ve also had a fair number of questions from confused and perplexed visitors so we thought we’d take this opportunity now to answer some of the most frequently asked questions.
So tell me again, how does this work exactly? Why are we listing projects and why should we fund a project?
OK, take a deep breath, here goes…
- Just like any large company, Agriya doesn’t like to take too many risks
- Developing a product like our Groupon clone takes a huge amount of resources, time, effort and of course MONEY. We estimate that some $150,000 worth of developer time has gone in to the software since we launched it.
- There are so many different websites that people want clones of
- Agriya wants to continue developing clone products, but only based on market demand
- The Fund Projects website helps us gauge market demand for a particular project
- The Fund Projects website helps us reduce the risk we take because people are able to pledge money
- YOU benefit from this because you might want to create a website based on another site but can’t find a suitable ready made solution. Getting the software custom developed is probably not an option because the costs are so high.
- YOU tell us what you want us to develop and pledge just a fraction of the total project cost.
- YOU can publicize the project and get other people interested and pledging money
- The project budget given is 50% of the total project cost and is the amount that the crowd needs to pledge before work can start. Once this amount is met, Agriya pledges the final 50% of the project cost to start the project
- Once the project cost has been fully met with the pledges the project will close, your money will be transferred to Agriya and Agriya will assign developers and resources to start building the project.
- Agriya will market and sell the product and you will receive a share of every sale made, based on how much you pledged.
- Everyone wins. YOU get your website built for a fraction of the cost. YOU earn up to double your original money back because you were one of the original investors and Agriya gets to reduce the risk of developing a new product.
Phew! Does that make more sense? Please let us know! Now here are a few more specific questions which people have asked us recently.
1. Can anyone add a project to the site?
Yes, anyone can add a web development or software development orientated project to the site in order to raise funding to get it developed by Agriya. It’s all about market demand, if Agriya sees a good market demand based on the money being pledged, we’ll help you get it developed.
2. Can I add iPhone, Android, Windows application etc. projects?
Yes, anything that is related to software development or web development can be added as a project and as long as it can be sold as a product afterwards.
3. Why would anyone fund my project? What do they get out of it?
At the moment FundProjectsWith.me is based around projects which create a product which can be sold to the masses once it is finished. If you list a project then other people who are interested in running a similar website can contribute so that they can save money and earn a percentage of the profits where they can earn up to double their money back (based on sales).
4. Will only I be able to use the software?
No, anyone who pledges money will have access to the software and it will also be sold as a product by Agriya where you earn a percentage of the sale
5. Who will develop my website or software project?
The projects posted on FundProjectsWith.me will be developed exclusively by Agriya. At this time you cannot raise the funds and choose a different development company.
6. Who will own the copyright to the project I get developed?
The copyright is owned by Agriya since we are developing the project to sell to the market. You are pledging some money to be involved. If you wish to have the copyright for the software then you will need to pay the full amount for the project cost.
These are just a few of the questions we’ve been asked so far. Please take a look at the website for yourself and discover how you can get your dream project off the ground right now with the power of the crowd and a little bit of help from Agriya.

Benefits of PHP
If you are wondering whether to choose PHP to develop your next website in and want to know what benefits PHP has over other languages, then this article is for you. I’ve compiled a list of reasons why PHP is so great and the benefits using PHP can bring. Most of them can be boiled down to a time / cost saving theme.
So here you have it, 15 unbeatable benefits of PHP…
Free – Like Totally Free
You can’t get a better price tag for the language. PHP is completely free to use, free to download, free to distribute. The actual language has zero upfront costs and zero ongoing costs
Royalty Free
PHP is a royalty free license. This means that you don’t have to pay anyone to use it and no one can demand a fee to use it later on. Infact, using the language has no direct costs at all.
Free From Restrictive Licenses
There are no restrictive licenses detailing what you can and can’t do with the language, anything goes, you can even fork the language yourself and create your own version of PHP. You can let others download it from your site, you can use it for personal or commercial purposes, it can be used in any country and for any application you want. That’s some serious flexibility when you compare it to proprietary languages like Java and ASP.NET!
Massively Reduces Your Server Bills
While PHP can run on your Windows based server, it’s mostly designed to run on Linux and Apache, which are both open source software which have zero upfront costs and zero ongoing costs – you even get future updates free of charge. This can cut your server maintenance bills to a fraction of what you might be paying for your Windows servers (which will include on going maintenance and upgrade costs).
Mature Code
PHP has been actively developed for over 15 years, which makes it the same age as many languages seen as ‘commercial’ like Java, ColdFusion and ASP.NET. Just like these other languages, PHP is a proven technology but without the costs.
Consistently Updated
The PHP language is kept up to date by a team of global experts who ensure that the language is always relevant to the requirements of todays websites. In 2009 alone there were 3 major updates to the language and there have been 2 major updates so far in 2010. If you choose to develop your next site using PHP you can sleep well knowing that you’re not going to be left with an abandoned language.
Works With A Number of Databases
While most people know that PHP can work with mySQL (another open source language which keeps your costs down), it can also work with a number of ‘enterprise’ databases like Oracle OCI8, MSSQL and IBM DB2 so even if you want to migrate just the programming language to PHP to reduce your costs, you don’t need to spend any more money transferring your database to another platform.
Very Easy To Learn
The basics of PHP are very easy to learn. Agriya can take a college fresher and with no prior experience in coding we can get them up to speed on client projects within 3 months. There are not many other languages that have that kind of pickup time!
Huge Amounts of Free Professional Integrated Developer Environments
An Integrated Developer Environment (or IDE for short) is a piece of desktop software that gives a developer all the tools they require to develop a project. An IDE can be anything that is as simple as Notepad all the way up to Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2010. PHP has dozens of fantastic open source IDE’s to help make your job as a programmer much easier. Even if you are a business, this can benefit you because you don’t have to spend money on expensive software just to let your programmers do their work! This is also true if you outsource your development to a company like Agriya, we don’t have to spend money on IDE’s or keep spending money to upgrade to the latest version.
Runs On Over 90% of Web Servers
To be honest, we’d say that PHP runs on more than 99% of Web Servers since it works on just about every operating system available, but we like to err on the side of caution

Proven Technology
PHP is a 15 year old language built specifically for the Internet. It is a proven technology and used by the number one visited website in the world: Facebook. In the top 20 websites ranked by traffic, four websites use PHP. Other notable sites include Wikipedia, Yahoo, Digg, Flickr and WordPress. All of these are proof that PHP isn’t a language for the small business or for businesses looking to save money.
Thousands of Support Businesses
All around the world there are tens of thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of web development companies who can provide support, training and maintenance for your PHP driven website. These companies are experts in PHP can help with all your support requirements. Agriya is one of these companies with over 200 PHP developers and 10 years of experience, many companies rely on Agriya to keep their websites up and functioning correctly.
Hundreds of Thousands of PHP Developers
Since PHP is so easy to learn there are hundreds of thousands of PHP Developers who can work with you to build, maintain and improve your PHP driven website. While you could hire a freelancer to help you on as and when required, many businesses choose to have a higher level of support by taking out a retainer contract with Agriya which guarantees a developer can work on any issue at a moments notice. If you choose PHP you know that you can get professional backup and support whenever you need it.
Huge Database of Ready Made, Royalty Free Classes
PHP is an open language and it inspires many other people to be just as generous with their time. There are now thousands of code snippets freely available on the Internet that help do certain functions or provide a more optimized way of doing things. With so much help, advice and code examples available for free (and even free for commercial use), even if a developer gets stuck, a quick Google search is likely to give dozens of solutions to a problem. Reusable code also makes for faster development – cutting your costs if you are outsourcing your web development to a company like Agriya.
Ready Made Frameworks
Keeping with the spirit of open source and free unrestricted distribution, there are many PHP frameworks available that take care of many of the regular functions like member management, admin back end, search function, content management etc. which allows the php developer to focus on building the site your requirements rather than re-creating code over and over again. Just like all the code libraries, these PHP frameworks like Cake PHP, Code Igniter and Symphony reduce the amount of time it takes to build your website, hence reducing your costs even further.
15 Fantastic Benefits of PHP
So there you have it. Conclusive evidence that PHP beats just about everything else out there. Or am I wrong? Or maybe I’ve missed some blindingly obvious PHP benefits. If so, tell me in the comments and I’ll be sure to reply.
If you’re convinced enough that you want to do your next project in PHP, then Agriya has a number of very talented PHP web developers who I’m sure would love to work on your project!
Oh, and by the way, incase you are wondering what PHP stands for, when Rasmus Lerdorf first developed the language back in the 90′s, he said it stood for Personal Home-Page. However, since then the language has grown up and it is now referred to as PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. Rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it!

Agriya has developed a Fiverr clone which is a proven, stable and secure platform. According to recent industry report*, the top 5 fixed price job sites all use Agriya’s FP Platform. Of the top 15 fixed price job sites (and there are hundreds of them!), Agriya’s software is used in 11 of the sites, the other 4 sites use custom made scripts.
While there are several companies offering fiverr clone scripts, it’s clear from the numbers that only Agriya’s FP Platform is dependable enough to let entrepreneurs build successful websites. Given the success of our clients, many of them say that their decision to use FP Platform was key to helping them build highly profitable websites.
More About Fixed Price Jobs
Fiverr is basically a website where people will post the jobs that they will do for $5 and let buyers come along and take advantage of that. It could be anything from taking a photo to voice recording with an accent. Graphic designers, campaigners and work at home Mum’s have discovered that $5 can go a long way when there are 1,000 or more buyers!
As the website owner, you make your money by taking a small percentage of each sale (5% of 10,000x $5 transactions a day is… $2,500 per day), offering advertising or even charging people to post their jobs. There can be other revenue models built in to the system like charging a subscription fee, having multi-tiers like “jobs I’ll do for $10″ and enabling people to feature their jobs for more exposure.

GigBucks is already using our Fiverr clone script - www.gigbucks.com
The Fiverr clone concept could also be applied to niche sites as well, you could setup a local community site where people can offer to do odd jobs for a fixed price. Alternatively you could set up a site that caters to a particular industry, for example voice over artists could offer their services for $5 (or whatever price you set) and buyers can choose by region, accent and even language.
The scope for developing a site like Fiverr is enormous and it has a built in revenue stream from day one, hardly surprising then that it is one of the most popular sites that people ask us about cloning.
You can demo and test drive the FP Platform today and discover why the most successful sites all trust Agriya to provide stable, secure and dependable solutions. Click here to find out more.

Liferay Customization
Agriya’s Liferay customization service is the perfect solution to turn Liferay in to a portal that meets your exact requirements. Liferay has already been recognized by leading business analyst companies and was featured Gartners Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portal Products as a visionary leader.
Under development for many years, Liferay has gained some impressive clients and partnerships, including Sun Microsystems and IT Mill. Now businesses are looking at Liferay as a low cost, open source alternative to the many other business portals and collaboration solutions on the market.
Since Liferay is released under an open source license and is a proven platform, it is an attractive solution for businesses and even Fortune 100 companies who have adopted it for their internal intranet and staff collaboration tools. There are two main releases from Liferay, the first is the open source community edition (Liferay CE) which is the most up to date version and then there is the Liferay Enterprise Edition (Liferay EE) which is the commercial offering which includes support. The Liferay EE version is considered to be the more stable of the two editions but is generally at least a release behind Liferay CE.
Depending on your budget, Agriya can work with the commercial Liferay EE or Liferay CE and modify it to your requirements.

Agriya has already worked on several Liferay customization projects for very large clients who were interested in the cost and time savings that Liferay offers compared to the commercial alternatives. Whether you are looking for a new Liferay theme, PSD to Liferay integration or brand new Liferay portlet development, contact Agriya for a no obligation quote.
Even if you are just looking for an idea of the cost, fill out our quote form and we’ll get back to you within 24 hours.
iPad Application Development
The iPad is the latest “wow” gadget from Apple and like the iPod and iPhone before it, it’s likely to kick-start an entirely new market which bridges the gap between smartphones and netbooks. The iPad runs a similar operating system to the iPhone but since it is bigger and more powerful it can run larger and more resource intensive applications (or apps, to use the industry buzz word). You can essentially think of it as an overgrown iPhone.
The iPad has the same multi-touch and accelerometer technology as the iPhone and so many of the application functionality designed for the iPhone can be used in the iPad. Given that Agriya already has experience in iPhone Application Development, we have begun offering iPad Application Development and welcome any enquiries or questions about this new service.
Even though the iPad has recently launched and has almost created a new market by itself, analysts are expecting anywhere between 2 million and 4 million units to be sold in 2010 and since the iPad can handle much more powerful and robust applications, the price tag for the apps can be increased significantly.
Although any iPhone applications will work on the iPad since they share the same iPhone SDK, they can be shown at the original size (which will look small on the iPad) or full screen which will distort the graphics. The best option, and one that many companies are choosing, is to port iPhone apps to the iPad. Agriya can also help with iPhone to iPad ports.
So if you are looking for iPad Apps Development, get in touch with Agriya, we’ve got the experience and expertise to transform your idea in to a fully working iPad app.

Facebook Application Development
Ever since Facebook opened up their platform to allow 3rd party developers to access the core engine and build new applications on top of their existing site Facebook has experienced incredible growth as a vast array of companies rushed to build apps that can tap in to the Facebook market.
Without a doubt some of the most popular apps are the simple ones like personality tests, quizzes, comparison tests and games – all of which can be created and start getting users within a month. Take Zynga for example, they created a number of social games using Flash and are now one of the most successful companies to have exploited the Facebook audience, even introducing a revenue stream thanks to their micro-payments which allows users to buy digital items for just a few dollars – the tens of millions of people that play their games means that only a fraction need to get their credit card out in order to make the company profitable.
While you might not want to be as ambitious as Zynga for your first Facebook application development, the potential is still there to create a wildly successful app that can utilize micro-payments (or even SMS payments) to create a real income pulling Facebook app.
Agriya has been helping customers with their Facebook application development since Facebook first opened their doors to 3rd party companies. Our Facebook developers are able to create virtually any type of Application, whether it’s to promote your website or to try and tap in to the enourmous market on Facebook, get in touch with us and get a free quote on your Facebook app idea.

Liferay Portlet Development
Liferay is a very popular open source social network script that has been programmed in Java and as a result has become a favourite amongst cost conscious Enterprises who are looking to deploy intranet and collaboration solutions. The main rival to Liferay, which is also aimed squarely at the Enterprise market and developed in Java, can cost upwards of $25,000 for the base solution and when you consider that it doesn’t do much more than Liferay, you can see why businesses are opting for the open source solution and then looking for Liferay Portlet Development to enhance the software to their exact requirements.
Liferay is very modular in design and just like WordPress, a number of add-ons can be created, the terminology for which is “Portlets”, little snippets of code that query the database to display some information. Mostly the portlets add a small amount of functionality, and since Liferay is completely free to use the development costs for deploying an Enterprise social network script can be significantly lower than a commercial option.
Since Agriya has been actively developing social networking software for clients for over 5 years, including Intranet and collaboration platforms, we have a unique insight in to what kind of functionality you might require from a Liferay powered website. We’ve developed numerous Liferay portlets in the past for companies like Cisco and are ready to help you right now with Liferay Portlet Development and even Liferay Theme Development.

User Driven Evolution-Twitter’s Whole Philosophy of Life
Twitter today is a great ear to the ground for most businesses and corporations. People love to vent on Twitter what they think about this or that company’s service or values; those companies have always seen this as a great window into their mistakes. Well, Twitter is a company with consumers too – and Twitter just happens to tune into Twitter like everyone else, to hear what the grapevine has to say about their potential to improve.Consumer opinion seems to have trended Twitter towards the creation of two new features for users now: one called Retweet and another called Lists. The thing about these ideas is, not only did Twitter not come up with it on its own, it is not even building them on its own: fanatic Twitter enthusiasts are doing it all for the company. While this is a fresh approach, it isn’t really unheard of. Bug Labs does something similar with its hardware products, giving informed consumers to design and build their own.
Where Twitter stands out is in turning this kind of innovation from an occasional departure to a regular feature of its plan. For instance, the popular way in Twitter of providing a link to the name of anyone who may appear in your post, is to put a “@” symbol in front of their name; this popular way came of a user idea. Twitter accepts features that users think up and popularizes them even when the management doesn’t entirely like it. The wildly popular hash tag used today was a user brainwave that was wildly unpopular with the management at first.
The new feature anticipated now, called Lists, is meant to let people make lists of updates posted by their favorite celebrities or anyone. It is meant to help people make some sense of their voluminous Twitter interests. The other feature of the week, Retweet, has been in unofficial use for a while. Users a time ago formed a casual shorthand term called RT when they wanted to repost someone else’s tweet. Twitter is introducing a way that will perform the same function without increasing text volume by repetition. Now this should be something to Twitter about.
