  1. Beta version of WordPress 2.8 is available for screening

    WordPress has released the Beta version of WordPress 2.8 and called the public to test it and file bugs. A lead developer of the WordPress development team has stated that they have implemented a lot of high-rated features listed in the WordPress Ideas Forum.

    The lead developers have given top priority to widget management, theme browser/installer and performance upgrades for the 2.8 version. Apart from this, they have tried to fix some bugs.

    I have listed some of the new features that caught my attention:

    1. New Theme Installer routines
    2. Add Documentation (function) lookup to Theme and Plug-in editors
    3. Use “Custom Header” for menu text and revise Default theme to reflect change
    4. Separate Comments into a separate postbox, from Discussion postbox, on the Edit Post screen
    5. Make tags accessible without Javascript on the edit screen
    6. Don’t ask for confirmation when marking a comment as spam
    7. Don’t notify post author of own comments
    8. Allow the dashboard widgets to be arranged in up to four columns as set via the Screen Options tab.
    9. Improved Admin icons (grey-to-transparent shadows)
    10. Add column “Rating” in Administration > Links > Edit
    11. Improved Widget user interface
    12. Add toggle all button to the Gallery tab in the uploader
    13. Support more than one gallery on the same page
    14. Improved database performance
    15. Improved performance for script loading
    16. Timezone enhancements for PHP 5
    17. Add a function to output a generic widget anywhere in a template
    18. Make login more pluggable
    19. Add support for blocking all outbound HTTP requests
    20. HTTP API updates and fixes
    21. Add filters so AIM, Yahoo, and Jabber IM labels in user profiles can be changed.

    We proudly announce the updated features of Kootali released today. Kootali is an open social script that enables webmasters to build a networking site enabling users to communicate and share information with likeminded people online.

    The team at Agriya has fixed bugs and added several new features on both the member side and the admin side, and released it as a brand new version called Kootali version 1.6.2.

    Some new features of Kootali are listed below:

    Members can:

    • View the status of suggested networks.
    • Report inappropriate or abusive content in local language or any other languages as per their wish, irrespective of site language. Admin will view the report in the same language used by the member for reporting.
    • Insert smilies in their wall content, and express emotions.
    • Subscribe to photo albums to access them easily.
    • Choose select all/select none option in the notification page.

    Admin can:

    • Filter stickies and networks based on owner’s email ID and/or name in respective pages.
    • Also filter networks based on network type, in the network management page.
    • View the site details such as license and site version information on the site info page.
    • Maintain personal information.
    • Edit the file templates according to their wish, and can also block particular users based on their IP address or email.
    • Control display of Captcha field in the signup page.
    • Control redirection of members to the profile edit page for editing photos during first login, according to their wish.
    • Set default languages on site as desired.
    • Control image cropper settings based on necessity.
    • Search groups, events, bookmarks, albums, photos and videos based on owners.

  1. Here comes the Anova you wanted, with compact features in an all new style

    In recent days, we’ve added some new features and fixed some bugs Anova, as you may have noticed. The following article will highlight the changes that we have incorporated.

    The landing page has taken a new format to provide all the information available in the site under various navigation bars like Video Questions, Audio Questions, Popular questions, Most replied forums, Featured Analysts, Top Analysts, Recent Debates and so on. The navigation bars can be dragged and dropped to desired locations, to change the look of the page. Users can also close any of the bars they don’t need.

    Anova has a new module christened as Debate to have healthy arguments or discussions on opposing viewpoints, often with more than two people. The debate module will help users express their view on any issues, and find other users’ view on the same. Also users can bring awareness on any subject among other people through valuable discussions.

    It provides the unanswered questions at the navigation bar to help users answer those first. On single click, users can invite their friends to the site. Inviting large number of friends from their contact list maintained in favorite instant messengers is made easy through the import contact option.

    Get the code of any questions and/or answers and embed the content in desired websites or blog, using the Create your widget link option. This is a great way to share the contents with readers.

    Our programmers have fixed lot of bugs; like the SQL issue in the embed content page, the template overwrite issue in email templates, the tags decrement issue while deleting and updating a question and css issue in IE7, and added live validation for admin/manage answers page, new style for attachment delete confirmation popup and “Best of Answers” Slider in simple index page. They have also added a new category option while no Parent Category is selected.

    The new version of the Anova is with rich features and free from bugs.
